Exploring the Himalaya on foot and a cycle | Sharath Vishnu
Sharath's personal experiences of trekking & cycling across the Himalayan range over the last decade. He speaks about the concept of mountain worship in the larger context of nature worship in the Dharmic society, and examines the names of mountains and the stories behind them. He then goes on to share insights about Tibetan Buddhism & how the people of the trans-Himalayan regions have tried to preserve the culture against proselytizing religions. He concludes by illustrating the importance of slow, meaningful travel, and the need to focus on personal experiences in today's world.
About the Speaker:
Sharath is a 25-year-old mountaineer & mountain-guide. He has trekked & climbed across Ladakh, Himachal, Uttarakhand & Nepal over the last 10 years. He has done Basic & Advance Mountaineering Courses from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, and has been part of multiple 6000m & 7000m expeditions. He is also an avid cyclist, having undertaken self-supported cycle tours to parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat & Rajasthan. Sharath is deeply passionate about Indian Classical Music & Indian Philosophy and is now a student of both those disciplines.
