Not sure where the "first rite" (or style) is, but "Extraordinary Maiden Magatsuhi" is a pseudo-3D game not unlike the greats such as Sega's "Space Harrier" and "Galaxy Force" which this game borrows heavily from with selectable routes like game such as "OutRun", "Darius Gaiden", etc. Released back in 2012 by the popular Doujin Group, Platine Dispositif (who are best known for Dicing Knight, Escape From Jabberwocky, Bunny Must Die, GUNDEMONIUM, etc.), the game is a simple romp through sharp landscapes full of obstacles and enemies you must shoot down. The few things that set the game apart from its contemporaries is that you run and fly as a scantily-dressed shrine maiden and you have two types of lock-ons which require different button presses and you have to be mindful of this in the heat of battle to get the highest scores.

All jokes aside, the game (Second Rite) is a small update to their version 1.00-1.02 game as versions 1.03 and higher added slight quality of life changes as well as an Easy Mode, unlockable 21RT Mode (where you play all 21 Stages for the greatest challenge) and "Full-Screen EX" which scales the resolution nicely while adding a smooth graphics filter and also accommodates wide-screen displays. Outside of that, it's nothing you probably haven't seen before: you earn points just for moving, fight a variety of bosses after short levels with different shot patterns, obstacles and enemy waves (in this case, the game has a little more variety than the norm) and the game is a nice homage to the psuedo-3D games of yore. Having played many Platine Dispositif games, I can safely say that this game is easier than a good deal of their games (believe it or not) and you can clear most routes with just a few tries due to the game's generous "Barrier System" which protects you from a hit and slowly recharges as well as getting an extra life after every stage.

-Story-

Once upon a time, those who came from beyond brought dawn to humans, gave them everything, and were with humans since times immemorial. By the time humans left the cradle of their childhood, they had disappeared from the eyes of humans, but they still remain in the memory of their souls as Kotodama. And on the day of the 1,000th night of the Kotodama phenomenon, the ancients came to this land again.

In ancient times, there were those who were not controlled by those who came from beyond. Called "the disobedient, unsettled people", they worshiped their own gods and resisted those who came from beyond. After endless resistance, some are subdued, some are chased, and some escape to remote areas. They were robbed of everything, but they chose to hide in the shadows of history without being consumed by a hive mind. More things were lost in this long hiding, the gods they worshiped disappeared one by one, and eventually all were gone.

A long time has passed since then, and now the disobedient live the same life as ordinary people. Izuno, the shrine maiden of the lost unsettling god, learns that the days of the gods suddenly came again that day. Those who had slept for a long time began to wriggle in the land, as if in response to a heavenly incident. Izuno decided to carry the sacred treasures that have been passed down since ancient times and head for the lost gods on the inclination that she too may have been disobedient at one time...

One thing I want to point out is that the game has different FPS options, but I see no real difference between 30-60FPS (the game still looks to be running at 30FPS), but it's probably for the best as the game is very fast as-is. This is a short video of the game in action. While Shaftdiver is a more stylish Psuedo-3D Doujin game, this game isn't too shabby. Enjoy.
