F-ZERO 99 - Bumper Back-Bumps (99 and Classic Mode)
In both the 99 Modes and Classic Mode Bumpers (Grey and Blue) provide the possibility to bounce off them to gain a Speed Bump
You can either strafe into them the moment you overtake a Bumper, or spin to enhance your hitbox. While being on Max Speed, the Bump provides only little benefit (but still noticeable). Yet using Back-Bumps to increase acceleration makes for a useful recovery strategy
Bouncing off Bumpers that move at Dash-Plate Speed can extend the duration of your Dash-Plate. This can be done on Death Wind 1 and 2
In order to get successful Back-Bumps in Classic Mode you have to angle yourself a bit, followed by strafing with the L/R button
You can even receive Back-Bumps after using a ramp and landing in front of a Bumper, either with or without the use of Spins
Negative side effects: You take a slight energy hit and damage Grey Bumpers. Those Bumpers are easier KO targets for the opponents behind you (in Classic Mode the latter doesn't play a role)
Bumping is half the game, and we will discover more of its benefits (and downsides) in upcoming videos
