Factorio - EP12 - Beginning a Rail Network
Today's plan: Laying railroad tracks.
Big picture:
With utility and production science we now can build toward a decentralized infrastructure that transitions us to a megabase. The first rocket is still a long way off because the current starter base will be replaced with a beaconed and moduled setup that relies on all intermediates arriving by train rather than built off the bus. The plan for a while:
# Transitional Module 1 Base
Begin building transitional megabase infrastructure while upgrades complete.
Principle: “Build now with what we already have.” Transitional base runs on red belts and module 1s. Gets furnaces and beacons to outposts.
**Goals**:
- 1 - 3 200 SPM bases. All intermediates trained in.
- Grab “low hanging fruit” from the research tree (bots, military buffs, mining productivity)
- Prepares infrastructure for actual megabase
- Extends game time?
- Substantial improvements immediately.
## Power
- Set up uranium mining
- Set up uranium enrichment
- Build power plants
## Utility upgrades
- Power Armor MK2
- Spidertrons (for builders and landfill)
## Trains
- Depots and fuel stops
- 2-1 trains
- Buffered “smart” loading stations
## Intermediate factories
- Centralized smelting (for faster outpost building while mining productivity increases)
- Electric circuits
- Advanced circuits
- Processing units
- Fluid processing: Plastic; lube, acid, petroleum, water
## Defenses
Bullets and landmines
- Dedicated factory
- Artillery
- Ammunition and walls
- Automate wall resupply
The map: I began with default settings, increase the resource size to 200%, remove cliffs, enlarge the starting area, and leave everything else on default settings. I am playing with a variety of interesting quality of life mods.
