This Mod Spotlight goes over the Combat Units mod for Factorio. It adds the ability to have combat robots launched from a special building automatically if there is enemies nearby. There is also a launcher gun that you can use to manually launch them. They stay out indefinitely unless killed as well.
This spotlight was done on version 0.12.30 of Factorio, and is for version 0.1.0 of the mod.
