Fairy Tail Volume 30: Seven Empty Years - Manga Review
Welcome to my review of Fairy Tail Volume 30 by Hiro Mashima. The Sirius Island arc reaches its end after the defeat of Master Hades in the last volume. There were some great character moments after their hardships, particularity with Cana and Gildarts and Meredy and Ultear. However, celebrations are cut short when Zeref arrives on Grimoire Heart's ship. Yes, Hades is still alive along with Rustrose and Kain. lolwut? Zeref utters the phrase, "Acnologia" and the ship is destroyed with the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse, Acnologia charging straight for Sirius Island. Fairy Tail puts up a valiant effort, but is no match for the beast when suddenly the spirit of Mavis Vermillion appears, casting a spell around our heroes and saving them. This causes the obligatory time skip which is in pretty much every long running manga/anime series, and things have certainly changed with the passage of seven years. While I enjoyed most of this volume, particularity the character moments which I mentioned earlier, I thought it would have been better if this volume would have ended right before the time skip so that there would have been a better cliffhanger. This was still another solid volume with some more mysteries to unfold such as what Zeref and Acnologia have been doing during the past seven years. Stay tuned for more Fairy Tail reviews coming soon when we get started with the Grand Magic Games arc next time!
