The Russian Sleep Experiment is one of those oft shared online horror stories from the early 2000s often called 'Creepypastas' (Creepy Copy-And-Paste).
The story concerns a facility in Soviet Era Russia in the 1940s conducting experiments on political prisoners to enhance human potential, specifically by gassing them into a state of perpetual wakefulness. If this proved successful the need for sleep might be bypassed, a discovery with great scientific and military potential.
But as time wears on the prisoners begin to discuss strange and morbid things. Then they begin to scream...then to mutilate themselves...
And then things only get worse.
