Fallout 1 Speed Run in ~15 minutes in 1080p60
[Wow, the credits song Maybe by Inkspots was flagged by YouTube. Apparently you can play a game BUT DON'T YOU DARE PLAY THE MUSIC IN THE GAME YOU SICK PIRATE SCUM.]
Notes:
- I didn't get the water chip. The game still treats it as a win, but perhaps it's not an RP canon win.
- I ingame skipped the intro. (No video editing.)
- Any RNG (random number generator / throw of the dice) failures on skill usage, I left in. So if I had to reload after failing a skill check for STEAL, I counted that as a reload "time penalty".
- I edited out savegames... I really should have just used quick saves.
- I let the half game cinematic run. (Military base). Not sure if I should have.
- I treat the overseer + bloody mess ending as extra / not timed. As its more of a bonus ending / mission. The credits are almost as long as it took to beat the entire game!
I didn't actually write the time down on the video or here and called it "~15 minutes" and you can just watch the whole thing and judge for yourself. The exact time really isn't that important, is it?
No idea what times other people get. I've never "speedrun" before. It was more of a personal competition to see how fast I could get it. Like solving a puzzle. I don't see any clear, obvious other ways to move faster. Especially since I skip half of the military base and use zero combat.
- I think I'm going to upload a v2 "commentary track" video along side this one (since YouTube doesn't allow multiple audio tracks--Booo... hissss...) to explain my reasoning and strategy.
I might do a run with the water chip in it, to see how those requirements change. Also, whether or not using the "combat" mode to sneak past enemies counts. If not, SNEAK will be a much more useful tool (Although sneak never seemed to work well for me...). Normally, you'd have to sneak past, or speech your way past the super mutants in the watershed in Necropolis. I've also heard people have done "dumb runs" (INT less than 4) which gives you special "I'm very stupid" dialog options like the Master debates whether FEV can even help you.
- I used whatever the most recent GOG version is (as of 7/5/2017), which includes the Fallout HD res mod. (Caveat: The Fallout IP switched owners, so the Fallout 1/2 on GOG you can buy now, may be shipping differently than the ones I bought years ago. My version doesn't include children in Shady Sands. V1.2, with F1_RES dated 12/12/2013)
- Technically, if you consider "killing the military base a win" (since what's the goo master going to use for an army anyway?) My suicide run (allahu snackbar) lasts all of 2-and-a-half minutes. I originally recorded that... but OBS screwed up the recording and left me with only a black screen.
