3 or 4 mole rats can be found behind Megaton. To the complete the optional objective, you need to head to the Tepid Sewers.

This is pretty easy, but beware when the sewers turn into a metro tunnel. You'll have to deal with raiders. Raiders have some decent loot including a mini-nuke if I remember correctly from another playthrough.
