Additional info:
- Factions introduced: White Legs, Dead Horses & Sorrows
- First appearance of Yao Guai (creature).
- Zion Canyon is one of the more radiation-free locations of the Fallout universe. All the rivers and free-flowing waters are clean and there are no radioactive areas within the location. The only thing that gives radiation within the canyon is pre-War packaged food.
- This area's real-world equivalent is a favorite holiday destination of Fallout: New Vegas lead designer Joshua Sawyer.
- Zion Canyon was the first location in the Fallout series to feature rain.
- Wild Wasteland: Two-Bears-High-Fiving
This character is a direct reference to a Fallout: New Vegas mod that changes one of the available choices to "two bears high-fiving" during the inkblot test that takes place during character creation.
- Joshua, along with Calhoun and Caesar, appears on the back of the Legion Denarius.
- Joshua Graham was written by J.E. Sawyer in both Van Buren and Honest Hearts. His story is broadly based upon the parable of the Lost Son.
- Graham's self-described "baptism by flame" seems to be a dual reference to both his "death" at the hands of Caesar, and his symbolic rebirth by way of the Mormon laying of hands, which is also known as "baptism by fire".

Summary:
The story has taken some parts from the Fallout and Fallout 2 stories, and is for the most part unrelated to its predecessor, Fallout 3.
Fallout: New Vegas takes place in 2281, four years after the events of Fallout 3, thirty-nine years after Fallout 2, and one-hundred-twenty years after Fallout. The New California Republic plays a major part in the game's story, being in a three-way struggle amongst the Caesar's Legion slavers, and the mysterious Mr. House.
HONEST HEARTS: An expedition into the unspoiled wilderness of Utah's Zion National Park goes horribly wrong when your caravan is ambushed by a tribal raiding band. As you try to find a way back to the Mojave you become embroiled in a war between tribes and a conflict between a New Canaanite missionary and the mysterious Burned Man. The decisions you make will determine the fate of Zion.
