When a Pokémon with the index number 254 (FE) is taken to be traded, it corrupts the other Pokémon in the party according to Gold/Silver. They unfortunately can't be traded however, because all affected Pokémon are said to be abnormal. At least for a Generation I/II trade, the other player's Pokémon are unaffected after the trade is cancelled. I haven't tested this on Crystal, so I don't know if it works different on that game. I found this when looking into getting (FE) on to Gold/Silver for Xelrog T. Apocalypse.
