The first gaiden that we sacrificed so many of our units to get. The sacrifices shouldn't be anywhere as numerous in the future, seeing how many of the mid to lategame units have to be skipped to shave off turns, but the units we do end up sacrificing will actually have contributions to the run to their claim, no matter how few or negligible in the grand scheme of things.
This map wasn't there until the DS remake, and you can immediately tell by its odd design. We have to get out of the bushes during quite a few turns, slowing down our progress, and there is a high enemy density at the very start and the last turn, especially if you fail to be cautious and get into the attack range of too many enemies at once (I don't). And then there are turns when you literally have one single archer to face.
I reset until the boss procs 10 spd. This is enough to double the boss with Swordmaster!Jagen. This is, indeed, the first time anybody reclasses into Swordmaster in this run (Wendell being killed off for his staff leaves Jagen as the sole unit capable of doing so anyway). As a SM, Jagenmeister has okay combat against the other foes too, doubling the pirates with iron and sometimes steel.
This map shows off that Abel and Shiida can be considered to have grown into fine units in their own right already. While Hardin relies on Silver Lance access to deliver powerful blows without doubling, much like Barst with his axes, these two already have great strengths that deserve mention. Abel is now doubling many of the foes, and throwing him into 2-3 enemies lets him survive while punishing them with strong counters. Shiida can double even fast enemies like mercs, though this doesn't come into play anywhere as often as it could with other allies dealing with much of the time.
Lena's 5 mov renders her inept at keeping up with the party so I reclass Sedgar into Sorcerer so that Heals can be used on allies even later on in the map. He gains a perfect physical level-up for the class on the last turn. At this point, I'm not yet sure whether it's Sedgar or Wolf who I will invest into in the next chapters. Wolf is very close to levelling up, too, having gone back to Horseman for chip that helps him avoid getting doubled (otherwise he'd turn Sorc, too).
The bosskill is surprisingly reliable, necessitating one Killing Edge from Jagen while doubling, after which Abel and Barst just need to connect two attacks without critting. The damage is done on the last turn so as to avoid luring the numerous enemies around the boss. Nabarl surprises with a good level at the end, though I've still decided I'd prioritise using Cain instead - he supports Abel and grows more speed, despite losing in weapon rank. Cain gets a few kills here since the stragglers need to be disposed of as the party is progressing forward. He just may catch up at this point, who knows!
