With chapter 3, we're gradually entering the part of the run where it's not "just an H5" LTC run and its restrictions start to matter. Lena joins as a Warper in this chapter, meaning Warp can technically be used already (whether you would opt to use it in this map is another matter) and after this map we would start forging our first weapons if we didn't ban forging.

Julian, Lena and Navarre join the party and are going to stay with us for a long time, Navarre being at most risk of getting sacked). Navarre is the series' OG edgy swordfighter with a killing edge, a sword that not only matches steel sword's Might while offering 20 crit but is lighter, handy for sword users who cannot handle much weight (pun intended). Since Navarre is a Myrmidon, he has access to Class A jobs, which include Cavalier. This is a great reclass as we get a 9 mov unit who can critblick an enemy out of the way when all other means of offence fail; not an uncommon situation in a forgeless run where hurting enemies is harder than usual.

Julian is a thief, the sturdier of the two. His hopes of a bright future, hinted by his great growths, are forever tainted by starting stuck with iron swords. As long as there are chests, doors and bridges to open, Julian will remain relevant.

Lena is the most important staff user in the run. C rank staves means instant Mend access, Physic use when that becomes available in a couple maps with its infinite range and eventually Fortify after using staves enough to hit A rank staves as a Bishop. She may not be using Warp (or repairing Warp with Hammerne), but as far as staves go, there's nobody equal.

This is another map where somebody gets sacrificed. The victim of downsizing this time is Darros, and his sacrifice is not only helpful for getting the first gaiden chapter but also helps the party not get destroyed by the opposition on turn 3 of this map. We're going to forever mourn you and your 60% growth as a Knight, noble seafarer.

It's also a map where I really feel the two sacrifices from chapter 2: missing Gordin and Doga causes the party's automatic positions to shift, as we don't get access to the pre-battle menu until the next chapter. What happens is that Jeigan, who used to be at the front, now gives up this favourable automatic positioning to... Wrys, who obviously doesn't want to frontline at all, ever. What's worse is that Jeigan needs a whole turn to barely reach his old starting position. It is very reasonable to use Jeigan to weaken the enemies here, and his starting position makes it easy to drop him on a mountain, where he has more defence and evasion. This would make the starting group of 3 Fighters and 2 Hunters much easier to engage - we could counter four of them on turn 2, but with this starting setup we can only afford to damage just one on enemy phase, making the subsequent turn much more dangerous for the party's survival. This is basically how Darros's sacking was necessitated.

I am lucky to benefit from two save points in this chapter, a tradition that will persevere and find thorough use in maps to come. The first one is used after the initial string of inaccurate actions with poor hit rates - all the javelin and hand axe attacks that whiff too often. Jeigan steals Cain's exp here with his crit, but since Abel is the basket I'm putting my eggs into I don't bat an eye and go on until all the attacks connect, positioning my units for the enemy phase. Three enemies still live, two of them 2RKOing many of my units. Darros falls to the Fighter under the weight of his Steel Axe, and the Hunters offer relief by focussing their attacks on Cord, who has the lowest defence. One hunter must round down attack for Cord to survive, which I check before I play the map. On the next turn, I finish the hunters, saving right before Abel is fed his hunter kill, levelling him up. I get a great +str/spd/def level, which is a cue to continue the attempt. Barst gets a nice +str level, while Shiida gets a mediocre level of her usual stats (skl/spd/lck). Spd levels shouldn't be underestimated, as they do help Shiida double enemies others have no chance of ever doubling and turn her into a dodgetank of sorts, which is handy when you have no real defence to speak of.
