We're marching on Arianrhod, just as planned. Rodrigue of House Fraldarius is there, and so is Cornelia. Remember Cornelia? She was a character in the Blue Lions path. She framed Dimitri for murder and seized power in the capital while allying herself with the Empire. Wait, but if she was allied with the Empire, why is she our enemy...?

Anyway, Cornelia herself seems awfully surprised by the attack. She should have heard about it! Why is that? Well, let's leave that for later. For now, she surmises that it's less that Arianrhod is the target and more that she is. Is she right? Who can say? Either way, it's time for her to break out the Titanus. Hey, didn't we see those at Shambhala? Weird!

This map doesn't make things easy. There are trapped floors all over the fortress, and not only do they hurt ground-based units, they slow their movement, too. As if that's not enough, they really like to make a wall of heavy armor knights right at the safe spots on the other side of the floors. There are two levers that you have to flip to neutralize the traps. One is relatively easy to get to, but the other is pretty deep in enemy territory.

When you get past the traps and the giant robots and take out Cornelia, she'll say that things are all going according to her plan, which doesn't make sense because she literally had no idea this battle was coming. The fan wiki I've been referring to throughout all this says that it's a mistranslation, and she's supposed to be saying something about how she and TWSITD were completely manipulated by Edelgard, which makes a lot more sense.

Cut to Garreg Mach, where Arundel makes another appearance. He's got his own thoughts on the battle, and he doesn't seem to appreciate what Edelgard accomplished. See, he thinks that Cornelia was poised to betray the Kingdom soon, and would've been better as an ally than dead. Funny how he knows that, because we sure didn't! All I know is, we only went there to take out our enemies, and since she wanted to fight, well...

Anyway, Arundel leaves with a threat, framed as a prayer, that the Empire may become another Arianrhod. What does that mean? Well, as in two of the other three stories, we immediately get a report that "javelins of light" came raining down and completely obliterated the city, completely off-screen. Putting all the pieces together, that means: Arundel is the leader of TWSITD in disguise, Cornelia was his agent working in the Kingdom, and they were the real reason Edelgard wanted to keep this plan a secret, not the church.

But, uh, never let an atrocity go to waste, I guess, because publicly, Edelgard is laying the blame for this destruction at the feet of the church. I don't exactly find that agreeable, but either way, she wants to end the war before another javelin of light disintegrates a city, and that means next month is it.

Look out, Dimitri and Rhea. We're coming for you.
