The new Tonberry fight in the Beginner's School is no different than the one last segment, or the one a couple segments from now. Vanish + Mute is an easy victory.

The encounters in Narshe aren't really that bad. Even though I'm trying to make use of Phoenix Locke, I considered Terra to be higher priority for Phoenix, and Shadow higher priority for my cash. So right now I just shoved Kirin on him again and put him in the front row to swing the Zantetsuken around. It's not terrible, at the very least.

As for the more important characters, I have Strago ready to throw out Raze against the outdoor encounters, and Black Omen indoors. The indoor enemies come in groups, so Black Omen just decimates them. Raze works nicely against the Nastidons, but it actually heals the Riders, so if I can identify one before I use it I can save some effort.

Terra is using Fire 3 outdoors, which does great damage to just about everything. Indoors I play her more conservatively by throwing out Poison spells. This is mainly just an attempt to finish of Wizards, which don't die from Strago's Black Omen.

Shadow's Fire Scrolls do great damage outdoors, just like Terra's Fire 3. His Wave Scrolls aren't quite as strong indoors, but they fulfill their role of taking out the enemies formerly known as Mag Roaders, after a Black Omen.

So indoors, most battles are Black Omen + Wave Scroll + finish off remaining Wizards. Outside, most battles are Fire 3 + Fire Scroll + Raze + Zantetsuken pretty much finishing off the fight. The enemies here aren't complete scrubs, but they can't do damage fast enough to compete with that.
