In a low level game, not having a chance to defeat enemies for ability points (and levels, but that's obvious) puts us at a disadvantage. Fortunately, killing an enemy is not the only way of accumulating ability points to master skills from desired dresspheres. Performing almost any action but Attack successfully results in 1 AP, more if you have AP boosting accessories / Garment Grid.

If you find the right pattern of repetitive actions with which you are safe (that is, you can be sure the enemy won't kill you), you can just put some tape over the x button of the joystick and read a book or something while the game plays itself. The only thing to remember is that you can't get more than 99 AP per battle, so you can't leave the game for hours expecting to have the dresspheres fully maxed and it needs a bit of your input.

In Chapter 1, we're limited in terms of abilities we could exploit to keep the battle going endlessly, but I found an easy way of maxing at least Warrior and Black Mage dresspheres.

Equip the Heart of the Flame GG on all three girls to absorb the fire element, change one girl into Thief (must know Steal Will) and run around until you face an enemy party with at least one fire elemental. Eject all other enemies with Steal Will, and select the following actions: Sentinel with Warriors and MP Absorb with the Black Mage. Sentinel will get the former 1 AP everytime it is used, as will MP Absorb for the BMs. When the elemental runs out of MP, it will steal yours with Osmose and in that case you'll just drain it back and forth. Now you can tape the joystick and leave the game play, preferably checking from time to time to see if it's stuck firmly.

There are other methods of gaining AP in similar ways that don't depend on using items or MP, and this is just an example of one.

Do remember to set the cursor position to Memory in Config if you decide to do something of the sort.

Anyway, I'm pretty much ready for the Zanarkand boss but I still haven't done everything I wanted in CH1 and I won't have a chance to after I'm forced to do the Kilika part of the storyline as well so I've been learning abilities while the enemies are still relatively harmless.
