After beating this boss, you're automatically taken to Kilika without another chance to revisit any place before CH2, so I kept a file before this battle just in case I find out I missed something (though I don't think I did).

For some reason, I remember this boss as being dangerous from previous non-restricted playthroughs, though his attacks aren't anything impressive, really.

Guardian Beast follows the same pattern until his HP is reduced to below 1/3, that is, 3 attacks followed by Curse on a random girl (I think). When his HP is low, Curse is replaced with Damocles Photos which deals exactly 50% from max HP worth of damage. It can be reduced by Shell; however, we'll trigger Damocles Photon on purpose to help the boss kill all girls but Rikku who will be the one to survive in this battle and gain as many as 3 levels (2 to 5).

Since a Black Mage, regardless of offensive capabilities (which are quite good, I must say, as being able to cast lv. 3 elemental spells this early is definitely not an opportunity to be missed), can't survive much at lv. 2 (in fact, a critical physical attack kills her instantly), we try to reduce the boss's physical strength with Power Break while the Black Mage uses Focus 4 times until using it has no effect on her magic power anymore. We also have her pass through the red gate to get the Auto-Protect status.

Speaking about Power Break, I shouldn't forget to mention that while the boss isn't immune to the break moves he seems quite resistant to them, as hardly every break attack succeeds. My original strategy relied on breaking the boss with two Warriors while a Songstress inflicts darkness but the fact that the boss is often at nearly full strength even when both Warriors are out of MP made me realise this isn't a very effective strategy to exploit here.

One Warrior is always ready to heal Rikku with a Potion when injured. Rikku must be at full health when Damocles Photon is used since we want her to finish this battle alone (sadly, that's how we'll finish every battle besides the final two, even when Minerva's Plate is in our hands).

When at maximum magic Power, Rikky casts Firaga and drains MP out of the boss until she has enough to cast two more. The next Firaga casting will throw the sacred boss into his second phase and we want Rikku ready to cast the third, fatal, spell right after Damocles Photon. We also want both Yuna and Paine at below 50% HP before DP which is why I gave one of them a spell-teaching accessory.

After this battle, we have Yuna at lv. 4, Rikku at lv. 5 and Paine still at lv. 1. Just one more battle where gaining experience is required in this challenge.
