In this Final Fantasy XIV video, I give my advice on how to start crafting as a new player. I also explain how crafting works and how to optimise the experience gained.
Why should you craft?
1) Repair your own gear cheaply and during combat
2) Reduce costs of finishing quests that require quest turn ins like the Zodiac quest
3) Avoid the high prices on the market board
4) Make your own profit selling items you've crafted
5) Be independent and not have to rely on other players to acquire items
My alt character Au Rie will be leveling up all 8 crafts in the game; Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armorer, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, Weaver, Alchemist and Culinarian without any help and only using the Gil she generated herself as a new character a couple of weeks ago. Using the advice I have already shown in my New Players Gil Guide (https://youtu.be/X4hvMV6nzvg) I was able to generate 2.75+ million Gil by the time I finished the main scenario on her until the end of Patch 2.55.
My approach for levels 25 to 30 is as follows:
1) Buy/Craft Fish Soup CP Food
2) Buy a Company-Issued Engineering Manual II for 2300 Grand Company Seals from your Grand Company
3) Make sure your gear is up to date from items you've crafted so far - Apprentice Offhand (Level 40 Class Quest), Linen Wedge Cap of Gathering, Vintage Chef's Apron, Vintage Smithy's Gloves, Vintage's Chef's Belt, Linen Bottom, Linen Gaiters, Mythril Choker, Wolf Earrings, Mythril Wristlets of Crafting, Mythril Ring of Crafting
4) Do the Crafting Log from level 30 - 35 - take advantage of https://www.ffxivcrafting.com
5) Do the Grand Company Provisions Delivery quests daily
6) Share Level 15 Abilities - CRP Rumination, BSM Ingenuity, ALC Tricks of the Trade on all crafts
7) Do Ixali Beast Tribe daily quests
8) Do Leve quests from the town adventures guild that reward the most experience. Use the macro below to HQ the turn in's.
9) When checking items you need to make to upgrade, take advantage of the market board auto filtering.
10) Do leves for multiple crafts at the same time.
11) Check if items are cheaper to buy from the market board then the combination of the raw materials.
12) Quick Synthesis in combination with the Company-issue Engineering Manual II can be a good way to level at 40+ with spare money and shards.
