The FFXIV housing lottery has certainly been a mixed bag. For busy servers, it's been better to enter the lottery versus trying to win a click battle for a FFXIV Private Estate with a hundred other players. However, the split between personal and free company wards has been terrible for anyone looking for a personal house in FFXIV.
Especially those of us who have been waiting years for Ishgard Housing to launch around the time of Endwalker. If you want a large personal house in any ward, and didn't win the first lottery, you basically have zero chance now. Which is very frustrating for many of us.
This ward designation change may be too little too late for many of us, but if you're looking for a small cottage in FFXIV, this is a perfect time to win one.
