This fight is pretty much like the Final fight against him at the end of the game, only he has a bit more hp and is a little stronger. Once defeated, he revives and you've got to beat him again. The trick here is to get a full set of debuffs on him (deprotect, deshell, imperil and poison) Once all of them are set, you can start raising the stagger. You don't need to worry about a Chain Break, he wont use it here.

Once he is staggered, continue to raise his stagger gauge to roughly 600, while also sneaking in some rounds as COM COM. He should die in a single stagger both times. Same strategy for after reviving.
As for Equipment, He primarily targets Serah only and his attacks often interrupt, so I opted for the Twist Headband to help prevent interrupts.
