So, after a short break, our party returns to Istory, the most north-western party of the "world 1" map. I spend some time exploring the area around the town, looking for Ramuh. Although we have some hiccups, we eventually run in to Ramuh and take him out pretty easily. Defeating him gives us the "Ramuh" item, which can be used from the item screen to learn his summon. This is a very useful and power level 2 summon spell.
Then party explores Igetting a few new items and things, and then moves on to the area below Crescent, which is on the far opposite side of the South-east. Before entering the main island of Crescent, we fight the prototype. Our party isn't strong enough to take this enemy out by normal means, but using "beastmaster's" control, repeatedly, until it works, allows us to use the "self destruct" command. This nets us lots of AP, with a solid 12 AP points with boost turned up in the configuration menu. We also learn flamethrower from this enemy, though that option can't be used with "control", so you just have to grin and bear it with the "learn" command equipped to members of your party.
There is also an enemy called "Harvester" who drops a death sickle, a useful and powerful weapon. It's random, a bit rare, but we manage to gather one before actually moving on to the town of Crecent. Unfortunately, our party loses the fire-powered ship while visiting in Crescent, but we gain a new mode of transportation - the Black Chocobo. The Black Chocobo also coughs up some shards, one of which will allow us to put those newly-collected bard songs to use.
