FINAL FANTASY IV 3D Remake - Walkthrought Part 02 - The Bard & the White Mage!
I'm trying out the 3D Remake of Final Fantasy IV/4 - a game released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS and in 2014 for the PC/STEAM - this is the PC-release. The original game was a SNES or Super Nintendo 2D game released in 1991.
I actually really enjoy this 3D Remake and played it for 5 hours straight. I just decided to upload many parts instead of one long episode.
The game is awesome and I had the following to say about it:
"An awesome 3D Remake with cool cutscenes - some of which are voiced and with facial expressions on the chibi models, the music is awesome especially the battle-music and the world-map music, the story is exciting and great, the characters are interesting and overall I'd really recommend you to play this version of Final Fantasy IV/4 originally released for the Nintendo DS. Unlike the Final Fantasy 3 3D Remake for the PSP (Playstation Portable) this one has more features, has better cutscenes, has as I wrote facial expressions in the cutscenes where the other game lacked this and the characters are much more interesting and bad-ass. Overall I thought the 3D Remake for FF3 left a lot to be desired where this 3D Remake for FF4 actually improved on most areas and is a much better game - I couldn't put it down and I've never played FF4 before.
I haven't played the 2D version of the game on the SNES (Super Nintendo) or on any of the other platforms like the GBA or the PSP - the PSP did get a remaster of the game that's said to be the best version - I'm gonna give that a try later - but I do highly recommend the 3D Remake if you want cool cutscenes and 3D models that move in battle instead of the 2D sprites.
One thing this 3D Remake also had an issue with is the fact that the characters won't move up to their enemies when doing physical attacks, this is unless it's a better attack than the normal "attack"-move - for example the Monk has a special attack called "Kick" where he attacks everyone and it has a pretty good animation - the same is true for magical attacks and basically everything but the normal attack - unlike in the FF3 3D Remake the enemies are moved closer to the main party characters on the battlefield so it doesn't look as awkward - and I would say that everything looks better here compared to in the other game.
I'm not saying that the 2D Remaster on the PSP is worse but I highly recommend this 3D Remake as it¨s awesome. More realisic models would have been better but for the Nintendo DS this is highly impressive - FF3 3D Remake on the other hand was for the PSP and could have used way better Duodecim 012 Dissidia models.. So, FF4 3D Remake is awesome but FF3 3D Remake left a lot to wish for."
It's highly impressive for a Nintendo DS Remake - unlike the PSP Remake for the FF3 game which is underwhelming because the PSP is a slightly weaker console than the PlayStation 2 - it can run all the PSX/PSOne games - as such the fact that FF3 3D Remake had worse animations than FF7/FF8 or FF9 is pure lazyness on the part of the developers - with this title on the other hand it's on the NDS which is a much weaker system.
I'm using a mod for Rydia that will make her use the "After Years"-model in the original game - unfortunately it did replace her kid-model in all scenes that aren't cinematics or summons.
In this part Cecil - the Dark Knight, Rydia - the Summoner and Tellah the Mage Sage will cooperate to defeat a giant monster in a cave which will open up the path to the Damcyan Castle where Tellah the Sage hopes to find his run-away daughter Anna who ran away with a bard. Upon arriving at the Castle airships arrive and bomb it killing most of the people inside including Anna - the Bard survives and reveals himself to be the Prince of Damcyan Castle - he joins the team of heroes as a character casting buffs boosting the team in battle or weakening enemies by playing different tunes. Cecil, the Dark Knight still needs to find the Sand Pearl that he needs to rescue his beloved Rosa from the Sand Sickness and so the team of four heroes set out for a new cave to find an Antlion that they need to slay in order to get the Sand Pearl. With the Sand Pearl in hand they'd return to the Village of Kaio where they'll rescue Rosa from the Sand Sickness - after which she joins the team as a White Mage or healer/priest type character.
