This is the third part of a new Let's Play of Final Fantasy IX (9) - a game originally released for the PlayStation (1) in the year 2000, later released for the PC (personal computer) in a remastered version with improved features and better graphics. The game is an RPG or Role-Playing-Game like all the other Final Fantasy titles - also known as JRPG or Japanese-Role-Playing-Game in the West.

I had originally played this game on my PS2 back in the day and I suspect it was somewhere around the years 2001-2003 - I did never finish this game but I did at least reach the middle of CD 3 out of 4 CD:s - I've wanted to finish it for a long time as the game is great fun and has a great story like the other games in the series - the graphics are the best for a FF-game on the PlayStation and it also had four characters at once in a battle instead of three which I though was an improvement. I didn't much like the childish character models and did prefer the much darker and more mature themes of FF7 and FF8 - but this game is not worse - it's just more colorful and the characters are a bit younger. Yeah, I would have preferred if the game had kept the older characters - in FF7 the main character Cloud Strife is 21-years-old - in this game Zidane is 16-years-old - so there is a change in their age - but I'd say the game is similar and doesn't feel childish for the most part. It still has some mature themes like war and loss.

So I didn't own a strategy-guide for this game in the past unlike with FF7 and FF8 and as such I got stuck and never did beat this game. I'm thinking of beating the STEAM release going forward - a version that I bought last summer. This game has also been modified with the new Memoria Engine that allows enhanced features in the game, such as Widescreen resolution and a number of new gameplay features can be modified into the game thanks to it - as an example there are new playable characters and they count as real playable characters that will function throughout the whole game - they're not temporary characters anymore or characters that will bug out in cutscenes - you can play as General Beatrix of Alexandria, the main enemy Kuja, all the three members of Zidane's Thief Guild - who only were playable in the beginning of the game in the original, and you can play as at least two bonus characters. It adds the original PS1 buttons, sounds and music - and you'd get improved portraits in the game. All the graphics are improved by the new engine as well.

This third part became 6 hours and 18 minutes long - I had a hard time to stop playing as I got really invested into the game. The game is great, has an awesome story, is exciting to play and feels new because I've forgotten a lot as it's been between 20-22 years since I played this game on the PS2 - while I do recognize some bits of the story and certain enemies or cutscenes I had forgotten a lot as well. It's not like with FF7 where I've beaten the game a million times by now and know every detail in the game - with FFIX I still feel excited to continue because I clearly have forgotten a lot.

I'm playing from the beginning of the Cleyra Fortress area starting at where Zidane is walking around in Cleyra and until Zidane reaches the Dwarven town where the he will get a new party member named Eiko. During the episode a lot of important events will happen and most of Disc 2 of the original game will be completed - during this part the Alexandrian army will destroy Cleyra and ockupy Lindblum Castle - Zidane and his friends are separated into two groups with most of the events relating to Zidane himself, Dagger (Garnet), Vivi the Black Mage and Quina - some events will instead focus on Freya, Steiner and General Beatrix of Alexandria but they're in the background most of the time.

By the way, I will use speed-cheat, trance-cheat and auto-attack-cheat to do grinding on the world-map as I don't want to waste time grinding in the game - a boss was too difficult and I needed to use cheats to pass it - after which I looked up all the new cheats for the PC/STEAM version of the game - there are some that are permanent and then there are some that are temporary cheats - the temporary cheats do allow the player to grind up the levels fast.
