FINAL FANTASY VIII - REMASTERED - Walkthrought Part 01 - The SeeD Exam!
I'm starting a new walkthrought of Final Fantasy VIII/8 for the PC - namely the most recent Remastered version using mods. The original game was released for the PlayStation back in the year 1999 - and I had played all the way up until Ultimecia's Castle (the final area of the game) where I failed to defeat the monsters there because I had used an official Piggyback Strategy Guide to beat the game as quickly as possible and I had been under-leveled in the final area where all the monsters managed to kill my party.
So I had bought the game for the PlayStation back in like 2001 and played it on the PS2. Later I had downloaded the original PC-version from the internet and played a little bit on it back in September of 2012 - but it was very annoying to use because when restarted and trying to load the save it would ask for the CD to be inserted - and despite having the CD inserted it wouldn't work when trying to load saved games - as such I had abandoned my walkthrought of FF8 on the PC - it had some mods such as mods improving the textures and the music.
In 2021 I decided to buy the old PC-release from EBAY and I got the full game with the giant box, 4 CD:s and everything - but the game still wouldn't load the save when I tried it two days ago now in 2023 - it asks for the CD to be inserted despite the CD being in the drive..
I then decided to buy the game from STEAM and I bought both the original PC-release from 2013 that had been re-sold on STEAM only and then I bought the Remastered version. I had heard that the 2013-release simply was better if using mods with it.. Unfortunately I couldn't get the mods to work and I felt like the mods weren't working/loading up correctly on my Windows 7 computer - I then tried it on my Windows 10 which is a slightly older computer with a more modern operative system and it didn't work there neither - despite me paying for the Pandora's Lunatic Package of mods to make the installation easy - but nothing looked like in the actual screenshots from the modders page on STEAM - I felt like that was wasted money as I couldn't get the mods to run..
I then tried the Remaster and found mods for it even though not as many. I installed all the mods for it that I did want and unlike with the 2013-release the 2019-release of FF8 Remastered actually worked fine with mods on my Windows 7 computer. I used a few texture-mods to improve the textures of Squall Leonheart, Rinoa Heartilly, remove the blood-censorship in the game, I installed the Crystal Gameplay Overhaul mod because it balances the game and improves on things - plus it makes Edea stay in the party unlike in the original game where she would join you once and then leave forever.
So in this video I'm playing the actual 2019-release for the PC/STEAM - and I do own all the three PC-releases - unfortunately the original 1999-release doesn't even install anymore on my computer. Alright, I had played the Fire Cavern with the GF/Summon Ifrit and playing as Squall Leonheart and Quistis Trepe back in 2012, I had also played the Dollet SeeD Mission with Seifer Almassy, Squall Leonheart and Zell Dincht - Seifer later replaced with Selphie Tilmitt - and I had ended the final video at the robot boss getting blown to pieces by Quistis! The videos had been 15-minutes long.
In the current video I'm doing longer videos - it's at 3 hours, 30 minutes long - and I'm replaying the Fire Cavern, Dollet and then I'm also playing through the Promotion Night where Quistis Trepe will ask Squall Leonheart to join her and go to the Training Center to fight monsters there - and where the duo will need to save a woman that's being ambushed by a creature! After this Quistis explains that she has been fired as an instructor and is now also a SeeD member, and Squall, Selphie and Zell have become SeeD finishing their exams - the video will end at the start of the next day when a new mission is about to be announced.
I didn't speak in the video. I had played the game back in 2001 on the PS2 - unlike with FF IX/9 I had the official guide so I kind of remember more in this game due to reading the guide to get through it in the past.
