7Story recap: The Magma Stone Kain brought with him from the Tower of Zot opens a hole in the Agart mountains, allowing the Enterprise to be flown to the underworld. The Red Wings are already there, and Cid flies right into a firefight between them and a ground-based tank battallion. The Enterprise crashes, and the party seeks shelter in a nearby castle. The dwarves in the castle are the ones who were fighting with tanks, defending their castle against invasion to protect their crystal.
Yang senses a presence inside the crystal room, and the party rushes in to find Calcabrina, a set of dolls magically animated to serve Golbez and find the crystal for him. After defeating Calcabrina, Golbez appears to claim the crystal, and take care of business with the party he left unfinished in the Tower of Zot. Before he can finish wiping them out, Rydia reappears, all grown up and bringing powerful summons. Golbez is defeated, and the party catches up with Rydia.
As they leave the room, Golbez comes back to life and leaves with the crystal. Having already claimed two of the dark crystals before the party arrives, this leaves only one more for him to find. The final crystal is in the Sealed Cave, and the dwarves are confident that it's safe, so they suggest that while Golbez is busy, they make a counterattack to reclaim the seven crystals he already has. After an otherworldly detour in a dwarven pub, the party sets off for the Tower of Babil, where the crystals are currently stored.
After ascending several floors of the tower, they sneak up on Rubicante, the elemental archfiend of fire, and Doctor Lugae, Golbez's chief strategist. Rubicante is just leaving for Eblan on a teleporter. Once Doctor Lugae notices their presence, he attacks with Barnabas, his robotic son. After Barnabas is defeated, he morphs into a horrifying form and puts up a much more ferocious fight. After his defeat, it's learned that the tower has giant cannons trained on the dwarven tanks that had been firing on it, so the party rushes back down the tower to attempt to stop them.
