Final Fantasy IV: Ultima is a hack by 8-bit fan that aims to present a more expansive version of the classic. New weapons, spells, bosses, and a modified overworld are just a few of the changes on tap.

The latest version of the patch can always be found here:

Continuing on, you'll want to unequip Tellah before taking the elevator up to the sixth floor. That's where Golbez & Kain await. If you think Golbez was going to follow through with returning Rosa to Cecil then, well, clearly you thought Tellah was going to let his anger fly out. You would be right!

When Tellah sees his chance to strike, he knocks Cecil aside and flies into a fury of slinging high end spells at Golbez for like...a couple hundred points, tops. He then decides to hell with it and casts Meteo, lack of mp be damned. Golbez gets smacked for 9999 damage, but doesn't technically die as the battle ends.

As it turns out, Golbez is just fine. He even blasts Cecil when he tries to approach him like an idiot...yet doesn't kill Cecil for some unknown reason.

As for Kain? While Golbez survived, it did seem to break his hold over him. After Tellah kicks off for good, you can check on Kain...and then realize Golbez walked out to the north towards Rosa. Cue a run like mad to go save her just before the iron ball above her makes a connection with her head.

As much as the happy moment would like to be at this point, we KINDA need to book it out of the tower. Rosa & Kain rejoin the team and you get to see just why I've been running with two characters alive most of the time.

Like it was when Yang rejoined, Rosa & Kain's level get readjusted to something close to Cecil's level, meaning they're both several levels higher than what you'd normally expect. Kain still hasn't learned anything beyond Scan and his 5 mp, but that doesn't matter. He's still a solid attacker and that's all that matters.

As for Rosa, since she came in at lv32, she already has access to Cure 3, meaning she can heal quite well right now. What's better though is that her capabilities as an attacker go up immensely in this hack. With a Marksman Bow in her left hand and Holy Arrows in the right, her attack power is right up there with the likes of Cecil & Yang. Before you ask...yes, she can equip Zeus Gauntlets if she wants. This is going to be amazing later on I'm sure.

Before a proper escape can be initiated, someone wants a word. It's none other than the fiend of air, Valvalis. Cue another boss fight...and a potentially nasty one at that.

Valvalis's primary gimmick is to get into her form where she's surrounded by a tornado. During this, her evasion goes up greatly and she does a rather nasty Gale + slow petrify combo. Think she might even toss in a physical to that combo too. Couple that with her high speed and it can get out of hand really quickly.

There's a weakness though and it lies with Kain. If he jumps on her, it'll knock her out of the tornado form and she'll take a couple turns to go back into it. During this time she'll do weak physicals. Nothing more than 100-200 damage or so. As long as Kain can time his jumps to go off right as she goes back into her tornado form, you can keep the most dangerous part of her fight in check.

Most importantly though, the only healing you technically need to do is when Cecil gets nailed by a Gale or hits critical hp. Curing petrify if it gets too severe is a possibility too. Anyone else that falls to critical hp means Cecil will cover for them since Gale & slow petrification are the only non physical attacks she has.

After the battle, Valvalis thinks everyone's gonna die in the tower before she expires. She never counted on Rosa being able to warp herself and everyone else out of said tower. Probably wished you had a chance to kill her earlier now missy, heh.

More next time!
