Final Fantasy V SLL BKGO Challenge Part 5 - Shiva
As you can see I've made a few modifications for just this battle in the rules in order to stay low level AND try to keep within the guideline of the rules as much as possible.
What makes the Goddess of Ice so difficult in the fact that she spams Ice 2 in a very easy to see attack pattern. She aims in one row of characters, than the other row. It's random if she starts out in the front or the back row, but once she does hit a row she's easy to read. Front Row, Back Row, Front Row, etc. The damage of Ice depends on the targets. If there's one target in the back row, it does full damage, two characters the damage is split. It makes sense to put two characters in the front and two in the back to spread and minimize damage that your healer can heal.
What made it difficult in this challenge was that there was no way to minimize the damage enough. If I put both characters in the same row, it would work for one turn, but not for two. Let's say I put both Bartz and Galuf in the front row. She targets the front row, dealing damage to them both, spreading the damage out. The problem comes with the back row. Because both targets in the back row are dead, if there are any targets, then she has no target to hit, but it doesn't skip her turn. She randomly hits a party member, I think it's the one highest alive in the formation, and single targets an Ice 2, doing full damage. So someone's going to die with that strategy unless I spam Cure 2, something I don't have the MP to do. Putting the two in separate rows won't work either because of the knights and the constant healing I would need to do.
The only way to have done it with Bartz and Galuf only was to gain more levels to survive it all and I need the low levels for the challenge. So, deeming it impossible with the two, I decided to stretch the rules a bit.
Lenna and Faris are allowed to be alive, but no action other than Defend can be taken. This is just to minimize the damage, making the fight doable.
I also had to change the rule that Bartz had to be melee only because I needed Flash to basically disable the Knights. They hurt. I could've done it with Galuf, but that would take AP grinding to be able to use Blue magic in White Mage or White Magic in Blue Mage, which equals more levels which is bad.
It will (should) only be for this boss fight.
I use a Fire Rod in the end because the video was getting long and you really didn't want to see me just melee Shiva down for a few minutes. The fight was basically over by then. It also saved me an ether and maybe even an elixir, although I would've redone the fight with the girls acting to save the two anyways.
Fire Rod is an easy way to basically end the battle, but how is that fun? I shouldn't need to use the rods at any point in the game, but I'm not ruling them out if there's no choice in a boss.
Bartz - Level 11
Galuf - Level 11
I originally had Tiesto's Kaleidescope song as the music in the video, but I felt that might make the long video boring...not sure on that one. Either way, it's Dragonforce and I like it. If you don't like it, Dragonforce haters, mute the video.
