Final Fantasy VII Remake: Chapter 13: A Broken World
This chapter aggravated me. Avalanche isn't taking responsibility for their role in what happened to Sector 5. They continue to solely blame Shinra. I thought for a minute that Tifa was going to set things straight with Barrett when she said, "We did this." Then Barrett went on to say that Shinra pushed the button. While true, it's as if they don't take any responsibility for their role leading up to that moment. At no point did they step back and ask themselves what they were willing to sacrifice for their cause. They probably said, "Everything. For if the planet is dead, so is everyone else." "Everything" is such an abstract concept, but once they begin seeing the effect of their crusade. When they start seeing their friends and family die, I would hope that they would take a moment and reflect on their actions. If they kill everyone in their pursuit to save the planet, then have they really won?
Other than that, this was another good chapter. We finally were given the chance to see Aerith's story. How she met and came to live with her mother. Interestingly she looked very similar to Cloud's mom, Claudia. No relations, I'm sure.
Then we took control of Barrett. I really don't like him. All he does is say the same thing over and over again. It would have been nice if Square gave him something else to say other than, "Suck on this!" and various other grunts and exclamations.
The Boss of this chapter was annoying. I had to use so many Phoenix Downs for Barrett it was ridiculous. I didn't realize how dependent I became of the Assess Materia. That has to be one of the most helpful Materias there are. I didn't know the weakness of this boss. It looked as though it wasn't weak to any magic, but it was weak to attacks. Sadly Cloud had the Assess Materia and he wasn't in my party at the time. If I perished and was forced to do it over again, I would definitely have take Assess from Cloud and gave it to Barrett or Tifa.
The Barrett portion of the chapter wasn't as good as the rest. But I think, overall, it was solid.
