Final Fantasy VII Remake: Chapter 12: Fight for Survival
Another good chapter. It was dynamic, with new enemies, and story progression, really well done. My only criticism is climbing the tower was on the tedious side. It might have been better if the collectible items were more useful.
I like seeing what Aerith was doing while the other three were battling their way up the pillar. We knew that she was going to save or take care of Marlene, but we never took control of her and saw exactly what happened. This isn't to say that this is exactly what occurred in the original, obviously they had to come up with a scenario.
This was bound to happen, but I suppose I considered the developers would change some things so that Jessie and Biggs wouldn't die in the Remake. It's foolish for me to think that, but they made so many other changes I thought maybe they would be kept around longer. There was an indication that at least Biggs would survive, but alas, that wasn't to be.
The battle with Reno and Rude was challenging. It was hard enough with Reno in the first battle with him in the church, but having to not only revisit him but also Rude... I considered just gathering information about them and dying, then coming back with a better strategy. But I hung in there. I'm shocked I was able to defeat them on the first attempt. I'm will not claim I'm getting better at combat. This fighting system is so chaotic I don't know if I have the mental and physical dexterity to ever "git gud" as the kids say. It does worry me going forward that the battles will only get harder. However, nothing was as bad as the Ghost House.
Overall, I the game is good. IGN got the score right, 8 is about where I think it should be up to this point in the game. I will say, playing this for the Deepest Dive for #MinnMaax makes this feel more of an obligation than for fun. But, if I'm being honest with myself, I would probably be playing Animal Crossing instead of this. Remake is just so stressful that, while I'm having fun, I look forward to stop playing.
