8Recap: Two years ago, Yu Yevon was defeated, destroying Sin forever and bringing Spira into the Eternal Calm. As Sin was destroyed, the dream of the Fayth ended, causing Tidus to disappear. Yuna had returned to a quiet life in Besaid, but recently came across a sphere that showed what appeared to be a recording of Tidus, imprisoned somewhere. She left Besaid without a word, and teamed up with Rikku and a new friend named Paine to join the Gullwings, a band of Sphere Hunters searching the world for more information.
In Luca, Rikku, Yuna, and Paine chase down Leblanc, a rival who stole Yuna's dressphere to impersonate her. They drive Leblanc off, along with her two cronies Logos and Ormi, reclaiming Yuna's sphere. Back on the Celsius, the Al Bhed airship the Gullwings use as their base, sphere waves are received from Mt. Gagazet, indicating their next target.
The Celsius flies them to the top of the floating ruins on the mountain. As they make their way through treacherous terrain, Leblanc shows up again, having followed them. The two groups race to the top of the ruins, each trying to be the first to reach the sphere. The Gullwings claim the sphere, and the Leblanc syndicate slinks away to sulk.
The Gagazet sphere turns out to be junk, but new sphere waves come in from Besaid and Zanarkand, giving them two new targets. They fly to Besaid, where Yuna hasn't been since she left to join the Gullwings. Wakka greets her, and the two catch up. He and Lulu are expecting a child soon. Lulu invites her to spend the night.
In the morning, Wakka has disappeared, and Lulu asks Yuna to investigate. Sleuthing around the village, she finds out that there's a cave by the Besaid ruins that Wakka had been asking about. They find the cave with Wakka inside, and he tells them that he was thinking of looking for a sphere that might have a recording of his parents inside. He never knew their faces, and wasn't sure whether he wanted to ruin his mental image. Yuna's team retrieves the sphere, which turns out not to have a recording of Wakka's parents on it, but it was what they came for anyway.
