Final Fantasy XIII (13) The Promise played with an OP-Z. Title screen track with LoTech FX visuals!
Final Fantasy XIII was a departure from the previous installments of the long running series. It's novel fast-switching paradigm shift battle system was polarizing for most fans of the franchise. However, even if you didn't care for the battle system controls or winding, sometimes confusing story, you could still enjoy the high quality music. Final Fantasy XIII has a sad story with a sad ending featuring only a delicate flicker of hope...which is captured perfectly with the title screen track, "The Promise."
Here I cover The Promise using only a Teenage Engineering OP-Z. The OP-Z is an ideal sequencer to try to pull off this cover because it allows you to micro-sequence the timing of your steps, which can give overlapping piano tracks a more personalized feel compared to a typical, rigid sequencer. I sampled some of my own synth sounds for some of the tracks, but this cover features beautiful OP-Z / OP-1 piano samples I purchased from Cuckoo. I highly recommend them!
