Final Fantasy XIII - Any% Tutorial - Ch4 Fight 5 (Dreadnought)
Use Libra and wait to Auto-chain until after Dreadnought's first attack. Shift to Tri-disaster, waiting until after Lightning's third cast to try to cancel her ready animation. After Lightning casts three more spells, shift to Bully. Auto-support Lightning to get Bravery on her, and shift back to Tri-disaster (if done well, neither Lightning nor Vanille should do anything). Auto-chain one more round, and maybe get one more Fire out. Then, if Dreadnought is still missing either Deprotect or Deshell, shift to Smart Bomb to get it. Otherwise, ATB refresh to the other Tri-disaster and Auto-chain again. Throw a Potion; Lightning will stagger during this time. Shift to Relentless Assault, use Auto-chain, and ATB refresh to the other Relentless Assault after Lightning's third Attack. Kill.
The first half of the second phase is a race to stagger cancel Wrecking Ball. If you don't succeed, Wrecking Ball will deal a lot of damage to its affected targets. There is a small chance of Wrecking Ball hitting twice; if it does so, it's Game Over and you'll have to Retry. Unfortunately, Retrying forces you to redo the first half of this fight, so try to avoid that happening.
Auto-chain and shift to Tri-disaster after Lightning's third Attack. As before, shift to Bully after Lightning's third spell. Get Bravery on Lightning and Faith on Vanille, and then shift to Smart Bomb to finish debuffing. If you are slow with the buffing, this will be an ATB refresh; if it's not, cast two Fires and shift to Tri-disaster after Lightning's third spell; otherwise, just shift to Tri-disaster after Vanille is done debuffing. Auto-chain, Potion, Auto-chain, and pay attention to Dreadnought--this is approximately the time that he will use Wrecking Ball. If you stagger too early, he will use it as his next attack, which is bad. Instead, wait a moment for him to either start moving again or to start Wrecking Ball, and take that opportunity to ATB refresh to the other Tri-disaster, hopefully motivating Lightning to stagger. If you fail yet survive, throw a Potion, stagger, and continue; bear in mind you have now stagger canceled Steam Clean, so don't worry about reapplying Deshell in the next section.
Shift to Relentless Assault and chain. After Lightning's sixth Attack, shift to Bully. When Vanille starts casting Deshell, shift back to Relentless Assault and continue chaining. After Lightning's sixth Attack in Relentless Assault, ATB refresh again. You should be killing with this Relentless Assault.
If you don't manage to kill Dreadnought with the stagger, stick with Relentless Assault damage dealing. Watch out for a second Wrecking Ball. (If you are very far off from killing by the end of stagger, you are probably dealing damage very ineffectively, perhaps by not canceling Lightning's ready animation, or shifting just before Lightning connects with Attack, messing up her ATB.)
