Final Fantasy XV [PS4 PRO] Additional chapters Episode Ardyn
4No matter if you like the game or not, Final Fantasy XV is huge. It might seem barren at some points, but nonetheless it has a lot of content if you are the completionist type. One of the additional unlockable features are "Episodes" devoted to a specific member of Nocto's entourage. Thus, Royal Edition of the game adds three such episodes devoted respectively to Gladiolus, Ignis and Prompto (each DLC can be purchased individually as well), but the devs released one more DLC that is not included in the seemingly "complete" edition: Episode Ardyn.
Ok, this one took me by surprise. I looked at some screenshots and had completely different expectations. Yes, I expected an insight in the Ardyn's story. Yes, I expected it to be mainly set in Insomnia, just as in the screenshots. But did I expect the gameplay to switch from solemn to hilarious and focus on causing mayhem while listening to crazy a$$ music and collecting hats along the way? Well, definitely not!
The DLC tells the story of Ardyn Izunia and sheds some light on his dark past. While the beginning is just a standard type of gameplay, the major part of the DLC is set in Insomnia - a large sandbox that you can free roam, destroy the surroundings, fight royal soldiers... and collect points for it. As shallow as it seems and looks, this basic style quickly becomes addictive. You want to find every last destructible, treasure, or hat (yes, hat collecting is an important part of this DLC). Though the concept is hilarious, it kind of breaks the immersion set in the rest of the game, it is simply too arcadeish and out of place (but maybe that's the point, because Ardyn himself is also out of place, similarly to Keffka from FFVI).
