As a boy, Knud wrestled bears in the woodlands and matched wits with greybeards in the hall. By the time he was twelve winters old, he rode to raid with the men of the shieldwall, and none could match him for boldness or blade. His axe, which he named Ormfangr, drank deep in the wars across the narrow sea.
