3dsMax 2016 onwards has seen amazing updates of the Physical Camera. Fully supported and enhanced to GPU+CPU processing power with finalRender trueHybrid.

fR is an Unbiased Path Tracer and works effectively with 3dsMax Physical Camera based on real-world physics accuracy so artist gets both the realism, plus flexibility in creating different visual FX.

Tips #1 : fR-SCATTER TOOL (under Max-Modifier list)
This specialized tool can costs you $200 in the market, but finalRender users get it in-built. Adjustments with parameters under Distribution -- Surface plane : Random Distribution / Random Scale : Slope / Mask values. Highly efficient instancing - in this example, shown as hundreds of water droplets and sand grains on the scarab beetle.

- Check out the Distribution - Count value: modify in detail the number of droplets / grains on beetle.
- Daylight system added as source of Light ;
- Thin Film (fR-Material) effects for the shimmering light reflection on scarab body.

Tips #2: Understanding LENS BREATHING (under Focus / PhysCamera)
How to play around with settings: Target Distance vs Focal Length and how this changes in value affects the image.
- Lens Breathing set to '0' : no effect like zoom in/out even if Target Distance is modified; lens Breathing set to '1' then when Target Distance is changed, you will get a real camera effect when zooming in /out. Note: the beauty is that in the real world no lens manufacturer can actually alter the lens breathing error; however, in a physically-accurate CG 'physical camera', this now can be adjusted to create multiple effects on your image at finalRender hybrid speed and power.

Tips #3: FOCAL LENGTH:
Focal : 50 = wide view fx
Focal : 100 = zoom in fx
Focal : 200 = greater zoom in effect

Tip #4: BLURRINESS / DEPTH-OF-FIELD
-Aperture (under Lens) - is the only parameter for you to set the blur / DoF effects. Not controlled by zoom.
-Enable the DOF 'On' - play around and see the sense of scale, nice focal on the scarab beetle and the background blur - simple one click to control the DOF with finalRender!
- increase the Aperture for reduce blur effect = same as widening the DOF
-Aperture vs Exposure interplay gives the artists a lot of creative muscle in DOF / Light.
- automatic control via Target (under Automatic) : once the Exposure Target is fixed, the other values will be auto-sunc, and you can then modify Aperture values without affecting Exposure.

Tips # 5: HOW TO AIM FOCAL POINT (of object)
In this example, focal point by default was on the scarab beetle head - Select Camera -- Target Distance -- move focal plane to back of beetle, front becomes blur.
-Fixed the Exposure, you can now adjust Aperture to alter blur/DOF; and pin point right into certain parts of the image. All fully supported in real time hybrid rendering by finalRender. Full control.

Tips #6: FEED OF VIEW (FOV under Lens)
Stop Focal Length; Check Specify FOV, add Lens Breathing: you see the DOF effect is now reduced; again flexibility with how you wish to set your final image - helps in defining DOF areas.

Tips #7: FOCAL LENGTH (BOKEH)
- zoom to 200 mm. fR supported instancing effects.
- focus in creating minute bright spots: play with values in BLaded or Circular; example : create lens effect; Blades allow for uncoventional triangular bright spots.

Tips # 8: MOTION BLUR (MB)
- only with a moving item: especially fast movement will give MB
- fR allows for selection of which particular objects that you want a MB effect; Check 'Object' for the MB. finalRender supports physically accuracy, no extra processes needed. Scrub and you will see render in real time.
- Select Camera - enable MB (under Shutter) : change Shutter Speed: the longer you expose the film, the longer your MB will be and how fast your object is moving (Duration).
- Duration: 100th / sec (frame freezes)
- revert back to 5th/sec Motion Blur occurs.

Tips #9: CAMERA MOTION BLUR
- that is object is static
- photographers and filmmakers uses this a lot
- Physical Camera enable Motion Blur 9under Shutter) and Camera MB comes into play. Again, adjust Duration (exposure) time: 20th to 100th / sec: get trueHybrid finalRender real time feedback in ActiveShade mode.
