Hello all, this is the recording of my Live Stream about the fR-Matte/Shadow material. In this video I'll explain how finalRender can handle complex Matte/Shadow rendering tasks in real time.
This material can be used by Architects or any Visual Effects artists to create amazing images by integrating artificial objects (CG) into real photographs. All this - without ever leaving 3ds Max. No Image/Compositing application needed at all as finalRender have you covered!

Task 1: inserting a see-thru glass magnifier onto a photo showing book, reading.
How-to: achieve refraction / matte shadow / shadow catcher / ActiveShade mode setup / full GPU+CPU rendering / assigning glass material / the IOR (index of Refraction) / 'receive shadows', ambient occlusion values / UV calculation of refractions - Camera Mapped Background, Camera Map Modifier / texture coordination.
Task 2: Integrating artificial object into scene (car into plane)
How-to: combo of HDRI rendering illumination / ActiveShade rendering in 3dsMax modelling viewport / blue car added to scene / shadows - occlusion - Reflection On / Off / moving object using the Max Camera / adjusting O/P amount - bring down background hues / adjusting shadow intensity.
Task 3 : Playing with Matte-Shadow reflections in water
How-To: reflection catcher / blue and glossiness effects / finalRender integrated fully with 3dsmax physical camera : so even if you have no idea how or at what angle the photo was taken; you can still adjust modifications as if retaking the photo example, Tilt Correction/ real time rendering / add as many matte objects as you like.
Task 4: Advanced - inserting object in-between items shown on photo:
in this case inserting a 'post-it' in-between the thumb and the book.
How-To: using fr-MatteShadow : create a matte shadow object that is for the thumb (a cylinder) and a plane as the 'post-it', once render this creates the illusion that the thumb is above the post-it although in actual both are in one 2d plane /
Refine work with 3dsmax Material Editor : use option Mask Opacity / Mask Matte Shadow (mask out thumb in Photoshop)/ control form, transparency / activate Opacity Map: this method can be used in animation of rotoscope objects.
