First Boss Friday: Ilgute Garmr (Trails of Cold Steel)
0Many of you may know the trails series is my favorite game series of all time... unfortunately cold steel 1 is probably the weakest entry in the series.
You know how RPGs have tend to have a slow opening until the plot really gets rolling? Well in this games case it feels like 70% of the game is a slow set up and establishing characters so we can end up having 3 phenomenal games that follow.
It's far from terrible but in many ways this feels more like a persona game than a trails game, though thankfully it did come out well before Persona 5 so it doesn't fall into comparison hell.
Also this game is missing the big feature that makes the other cold steel games stand out. The mechs and science fiction side of thing instead it just feels like highschool JRPG number 87.
I say all of this but this is probably the most accessible trails game in the series even when considering sky 1 because of the more modern refinements cold steel has.
I think the game is quite good but don't be surprised if I start doing LPs of this series and skip cold steel 1 and maybe 2 because that game is brutal.
