[First Look and Tutorial] Wee little planes and sailors - Aircraft Carrier Survival #acs
I'll walk over the first campaign mission to give you a look at the game while providing veteran tips on things that might otherwise surprise new players.
00:00 - Foreword
00:53 - Customizing your Captain
You can adjust the look and feel of your captain. For campaign missions you can also choose a mission type as a special ability.
02:22 - At the Docks
An overview of the activities you can do prior and after missions at the docks. Upgrading your carrier, crew, escorts, and air complement are all covered.
09:40 - Getting to know your ship
We set sail and get a look at our ship's operations. Crew and officer adjustments are made
13:42 - Air Operations
We're on a carrier so air operations are key to the experience. We talk about managing the deck, planning, and launching air missions. The enemy is found and we must attack them.
20:16 - Planning an air strike
Air strikes are a bit more involved. You must choose manouvers for your strike that will maximise the damage to the enemy while minimizing our own.
27:12 - Launching the strike
Strikes also involve more planes than other types of air missions and launching them takes some care because you must still keep an eye out for your other missions.
28:24 - An injury!
Our damage control teams get their first bit of work. One of the crew is injured and you must assign DC to provide first aid.
31:06 - Recovering flights
We've launched a number of flights but they don't have unlimited fuel. They must be retrieved before they have to ditch into the sea. This can be quite tricky when you have a lot of planes up.
35:41 - Attack or Defend?
You can't do everything at once and one of the key decisions a carrier commander must make is whether to have his carrier launching further strikes or ensuring the safety of allied forces. We decide to finish off the enemy but there will be consequences ..
39:24 - We're being attacked!
And as expected we're targetted by an air strike. That's going to happen and we must prepare our defences. Luckily it's a small one and we don't have much trouble escaping unharmed.
45:05 - Getting the VIP
The final objective involves getting the VIP from Wake Island. Through all this you still have to manage air operations. I mess up and take too long so we don't get the last medal.
48:08 - Post mission debrief
The mission ended successfully and we award medals and look over the bonuses we received as a result.
========================================
"Aircraft Carrier Survival" sees you captaining a WW2 american carrier. You have to direct your aircraft squadrons to defend allies and attack enemies, assign your crew and officers, and repair any damage you might take.
