(First play-through) Stray | BlueTwleve Studio / Annapurna Interactive | PC | 2022
0Ever since this came out, I was eager to give it a whirl. I'd seen @cloudshiffersvods5673 casually play-through chunks of this game a while back, and @Nikkigames11 has speedrun it, holding the WR for PS4 at one time.
Often, when I go into a play-through with fairly high expectations, I'm left a bit disappointed (*cough* OG Mafia *cough*), but this was a pleasure from start to finish. Blue Twelve Studio knew exactly what they were doing with their character and level design to get people on board. There's so much that's almost certainly unnecessary but it's included because it's nice, and particularly feline (think, scratch posts and nap spots). These things don't overtly add to the gameplay, but they do help you get invested in playing as a lost cat, alone and isolated from your companions.
The puzzles in this are pitched pretty well - nothing so obtuse that you're not sure what to do for ages, but not so obvious that you feel like you're playing a walking simulator (I'll have more to say on the latter soon...). Some people hated the stealth sections, but I wasn't too bothered by them.; And they absolutely make sense given the story and setting.
All in all, this was a really enjoyable experience that does invoke an emotional response.
