"First" time trying throttle axis on my T.16k/M for helis: Gazelle manouvring practice「War Thunder」
For those who don't know, I normally use relative control (bound to C/V) for collective and therefore I don't actually have a "hands on stick/throttle" setup. The reason for this is because it's easy access for head and weapons controls. Situational awareness is the superior option rather than precision collective control afterall, but I thought I'd give it a try.
It feels especially weird as well because I normally "keyboard rudder." With this setup I cannot access my keyboard simultaneously so I've effectively lost all head movement control.
One of the major advantages to having collective on an axis is that you can readily push it through a large range quickly, allowing you to effectively use engine torque to pre-emptively yaw the helicopter around, and with keyboard controls, you're generally required to react to the helicopter instead because it takes a lot longer without precise muscle memory control being available.
Being able to instantly go from a hover to full acceleration and from a fast cruise back down to a hover has its advantages. With keyboard control, the transition phases are much more sluggish, which can really hurt for example, when you need to recover or over-rev your engine RPM.
