If I leave my Roku 2 streaming for more than an hour, apps such as Netflix and YouTube begin buffering every 2 minutes, freezing, or downright crashing. I noticed that the Roku 2 XS doesn't have any way of dissipating heat and that the box was significantly warmer to the touch after an hour of use. By simply drilling holes into the top, bottom, and sides of the case, I was able to get rid of the buffering and freezing issues (Current firmware, August 2014). In order to avoid any future problems, I used a spare 80mm USB-powered silent fan to place under the Roku, powered by the USB port on the Roku. To my surprise, that little fan pushes a lot of air through the case, keeping everything very cool.
