Step 1) Update the Game/Xbox App in Microsoft Store
Step 2) Run Gaming Services Repair Tool
Step 3) Update Windows
Step 4) Install Game Bar

Step 5) You need to be friends in game and on Xbox app. Send invite From Xbox App, after that whenever your friend joins a session and you are in solo, the join online option changes to join friend's session.
Step 6) Create a party on Xbox app and then launch the game, when you join a session and in the pause menu instead of the invite friends option it will be changed to join friend's gamertag, selecting it will join your friend's session
Step 7) Create a Team within the game. Invite your friends into the team via Xbox app. Let them accept the invite. Play together.
Step 8) Bypass the game bar process (Cloud gaming users)
-Both of you launch the game via Cloud (https://www.xbox.com/play)
NOT THE XBOX APP
-One of you send the invite to the friend by clicking on the Xbox button top left in the browser and not using your controller.
-The other person now also uses the browser, using top left Xbox button to accept the invite.
Step 9) Uninstall and reinstall gaming services
get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

Step 10) This step only applies to games that support cross play between Steam and Xbox
Go to the game installation folder, copy the game folder and paste it somewhere, now uninstall the game in Steam, Move the folder back to its original location
Reinstall the game
Restart your PC
Step 11) Update Windows using media creation tool
