Warhammer 40k is a series with deeply flawed premises. It relies upon a setting in which fascism is the only viable method of survival for humanity. Regardless of the intentions of the authors, this setting attracts a reactionary fanbase who see the ideas reflected in the insanity of the Imperium and don't question or analyse how and why it is bad to reflect similar views in real life.

As a capitalist institution, GW is unlikely to change their ways since their financial interests are best aligned with keeping 40k going as it is.

However the question of what could be done to make the lore less appealing to reactionaries without giving up the concept of grimdark fantasy is an intriguing one. This video explores this question by presenting a number of changes to the lore of 40k such that an alternative setting is produced. One that is similar enough to the original setting of 40k, but also different in some important ways.
