The Problem : Missing Leather Shifter Cover.
This is a used unit of a broken Logitech G27 gear shifter which I bought at a dirt cheap price. All buttons work well, but it is missing a leather shifter cover which the previous owner had lost it for some reason.

The idea is to create a shifter cover from a piece of synthetic leather cloth.

You will need the following,

A piece of leather cloth.
Scissors.
Stapler.
Velcro strips.
Philips screwdriver.

1. Gently pry of the top cap of the gear shifter knob.
Unscrew the screw inside the shifter shaft using a philip screwdriver. Remove the gear knob from the shaft.

2. For better shifting experience, stick the soft fuzzy side of the Velcro on the sides around the shifter shaft. This is to reduce the the knocking noise of the metal shaft and the plastic housing of the gear shifter.

3. Stick the rough side of the Velcro to the surrounding area of the shifter. Be sure not to cover and screw holes of the plastic housing, by cutting them into the correct shape.

4.Fold the leather cloth into a cone shape, but leaving a small hole for the gear shifter shaft to be inserted through.

5. Stapler the inner white side of the cloth. By right I shall be stitching it with needle and thread, but stapling will work just fine.

6. Now, flip the folded leather inside out, to reveal only the black leather side facing out, notice the tiny hole in the centre.

7. Now cover the leather cone onto the gear shifter, and align the shifter shaft to be pushed through the hole.

8. Adjust and cut the excessive leather cloth, to be slightly bigger than the oval shape surround the gear stick. Try to trace the entire oval. Don't worry about the creases, it is there to allow the gear shaft to move.

9. Try to trace the entire oval and mark the underside of the leather cloth. Don't worry about
the creases, it is there to allow the gear shaft to move.

11. Remove the the leather cone from the gear shifter and apply Velcro only on the marked white side of the leather cloth.

12. Cover the leather cone onto the gear shifter, and align the shifter shaft to be pushed through the hole,
press on the Velcro strips to secure the leather cover on its proper position. Cut whichever excess cloth and adjust to fit the oval surround the gear shifter. Repeat until the leather cone covers the entire oval shape and secure it firmly with Velcro strips.

13. Almost there, trim the excess leather until all sides fit the oval surround the gear shifter and then reinstall the gear knob, and screw it back,
and fit the gear knob cap gently to the gear knob.

Voila !!! The gear shifter is now fixed, and looks much better than having it entirely exposed.
