Flip The Bacon Video Game Review System!
5I got 10 categories. Each category earns a score based on hearts. So, each category gets either 0 hearts, 1/2 heart, 1 heart, 1 and a 1/2 hearts, or a maxium of 2 hearts.

Below are the descriptions of what I look for in each of the categories when doing a game review.
1. Story:
Was the story presented well; meaning was it compelling while also being easy to follow? Did it keep my interest with its personal style, be it comedic, serious or somewhere in between?
2. Controls:
How well did the game control? Were the controls intuitive? Did quality of the controls affect the gameplay in a significant way, and if so, was it positive or negative?
3. Visual Style or Graphics:
How well did the visual style mesh with the overall tone of the game? How do the graphics compare to industry averages for the time in which the game was released? Was the visual style engaging to the player, and did the level of detail immerse the player into the world?
4. Sound:
How well was the quality and production of the sound effects executed in the game. Did the sound effects fit into the game? Did they feel forced? Were they annoying?
5. Music:
What quality of music was used throughout the game? Did it match with the overall tone the game was trying to establish? Was the music a distraction or a focal point?
6. Enjoyment:
Was the game consistent in its level of enjoyability? If not, what stood out as either more or less enjoyable?
7. Replay Value:
How likely would you be to play the game again after completing it? Does the game give you a reason to play again?
8. Bug Free:
Was the game free of bugs? Did it ever crash/freeze/glitch while playing? If yes, how often did it effect the game?
9. Tutorial/Informing:
Did the game explain how to use its in-game mechanics, or did it leave you in the dark to figure out how everything works? Such as how items, spells, controls, levels, puzzles, skills, fighting, and more work?
10. Difficulty:
How was the difficulty of the game overall? I came up with the formula below.
(0 Hearts)
The game is impossible to beat.
(1/2 Heart)
Barely beatable, only the most skilled gamers will be able to beat this game. May result in broken controllers.
(1 Heart)
The game was either too difficult or too easy (Or was too difficult or too easy at certain points in the game).
(1 &1/2 Half Hearts) The game was just a bit too difficult or too easy (Or was just a bit too difficult or too easy at certain points in the game).
(2 Hearts) The game was of perfect difficulty! It was neither too hard or too easy.
The maximum amount of hearts a game can get in a review is 20 hearts in total! (e.g. getting 2 hearts in all 10 categories.) and the lowest score a game can get in a review is 0 hearts! (e.g. getting 0 hearts in all 10 categories.)
Depending on how many hearts a games gets in the review, it will fall into one of following scoring categories below.
18.5-20 Hearts: Extraordinary!
Almost all people will find this exceptionally fun and an unforgettable, life changing experience. On my personal list of must plays! Has no design issues, no bugs, and no other problems.
14-18 Hearts: Excellent!
Most people will find this very enjoyable and I highly recommend it. Suffers from very little design issues, minimal bugs, or other minimal amount of flaws, but is just missing that special something to push it over the top.
9.5-13.5 Hearts: Average.
Altogether a lot of people will have fun with this one. I do recommend you check it out if you get the chance. Suffers from a small amount of design issues, small bugs, and/or a low amount of problems.
5-9 Hearts: Terrible!
Some may find this enjoyable. I can’t say I recommend it unless you are just looking to kill some time. Suffers from a little more than average design issues, some bugs, or other moderate problems. Is lacking in many key areas but playable.
0-4.5 Hearts: Unforgivable!
Most people will find this unenjoyable if not entirely unplayable. I do not recommend. Suffers from a lot of design issues, serious bugs and/or other serious problems.
