FoEhints: Summer Event 2018 in Forge of Empires
Early in August the Summer Event 2018 will start in Forge of Empires and last 3 weeks. Many players have the best memories from the summer events of the previous years and are very exited this year again.
This time the theme is 'Pirates of the Caribbean' with their ships, sunken treasures and adventures. The game designers created that very attractive with nice images and attractive new buildings. There will be another video for the buildings soon.
As already in the previous years the heart of the event is the wheel of fortune. To spin the wheel a doubloon, a medieval Spanish gold coin, is needed.
I recommend to log in at least once every day as this is rewarded with one doubloon.
Then there are 30 times a doubloon for the main quest line of the event. Those who complete it fast enough can complete another 21 bonus quests. Every day one more will become available.
Inside of the quest line you will receive another 6 doubloons for completing the 30th and the 51st quest.
The quests are similar to previous events and as far as I can see it today, there are no quests players dislike. As always you will find the quests in the first, pinned comment below the video.
After spinning the wheel of fortune for 1 doubloon it will stop on a random of 9 possible positions. Most of the time this is a consolation prize, but sometimes it is a silver or golden prize. Nobody participates in a lottery to win the consolation prizes. Better this than a blank. But in each lottery everybody hopes to get one of the first ranks, here the silver and golden prizes.
When spinning the wheel you have the choice between just spinning using the possible prizes as they are on the wheel and 'Refresh and Spin' which first replaces all possible prizes by new ones and then spins the wheel. Both has the price of 1 doubloon..
Therefore it is important to first have a look on the golden prize. If there is no golden prize on the wheel, which can happen every once in a while, then the decision is clear: Refresh and Spin.
If there is a golden prize, then you have to make a decision: Is this an interesting prize or not. In my case the possible golden prize twice in a row was the Shrine of Inspiration. This was not really an inspiration for me. This is why I always decided for 'Refresh and Spin'.
For judging the offered prizes it is an advantage to know about all possible prizes. These are displayed in groups on the right side of the screen. From my point of view the Sunken Treasure is a very interesting prize. Receiving 1 forge point every day is not bad for a 3x2 production building, but the possibility to get 5 goods of the current age every 8 hours makes this building exceptional, especially for players above the Modern Era. This would be nice in my city.
...
Good things come to those who wait and finally I receive the desired prize, the Sunken Treasure.
I still have to explain the treasure hunt part of this event. For each spin your ship moves forward one tile on the treasure map, sometimes 2 or 3. You will need an average of 16 spins to complete a map with it's 20 fields.
Once the treasure map is complete you receive the associated Grand Prize. The first Grand Prize is an Upgrade Kit, then a Shrine of Knowledge, then two times another Upgrade Kit, then a wishing well and finally another Upgrade Kit. Completing the treasure map 6 times you will have enough Upgrade Kits to bring your ship to level 7. With a total of 86 doubloons and an average of 16 doubloons per map it is close, but not enough for the 6th Upgrade Kit, but a Ship Level 6 should be possible for each participant without using diamonds. For level 7 a few diamonds are needed, but it is worth it. I recommend to start to collect diamonds from the guild expedition and other sources for this.
With a little luck and the following strategy it is possible to get the Ship on level 7 without using diamonds at all. Some wheels have more map parts than others as this also is random. If you ignore the golden prize strategy above, but instead only look on the number of map parts per wheel you can reduce the number of spins that much that you really have the possibility to bring your ship on level 7 without spending a single diamond for doubloons.
You will receive the ship level 1 as a reward for completing the 4th quest. Making progress in the quest line you will receive 2 Upgrade Kits. Together with 4 Upgrade Kits from Grand Prizes this is enough to bring the ship to level 7. Upgrades until level 6 are in the usual way. When upgrading to level 7 you can decide if you prefer the Pirate Ship, the Royal Ship or the Trader Ship. These 3 ships do not only look different, they also have different properties. More about these ships and the other new event buildings in another video coming soon. And I really love these three ships. They look great and they contribute well to my city. Most of all I would like to build all 3.
