The character of Mr. McMahon is that of someone who is angry, evil, misogynistic, possibly incestuous, and completely unwilling to give up grudges. From what we hear, in real life, Vince McMahon is actually a pretty nice guy…who also happens to be completely unwilling to give up grudges. Case in point: his treatment of WCW wrestlers who joined the WWE after their previous promotion went out of business on March 26, 2001.
While some wrestlers managed to avoid the McMahon wrath, and a few were even given hearty pushes and favorable contracts - like Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, Perry Saturn, Dean Malenko, and Chris Benoit - numerous competitors found themselves insulted, humiliated, improperly booked, or completely buried by the boss. In fact, as you’ll soon see, McMahon is responsible for ruining the careers of numerous wrestlers.
Of course, we can’t actually see into the man’s brain like some even weirder version of “Being John Malkovich,” but anyone who actually knows Vince knows that he isn’t one to hide his emotions or mince his words, and that he prefers to grow his own wrestlers (steroid pun not intended). It’s obvious when he doesn’t believe in a wrestler’s abilities, attitude, or gimmick, and although this list includes a lot of speculation, much of it is corroborated by the actual people involved.
Whether or not the punishments - which range across the board in severity - were warranted is still up for debate, but regardless of the background or reasoning, here are 10 times Vince McMahon punished former WCW wrestlers.
