This gameplay walkthrough of “Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury” will show you the locations and how to get the all the CAT SHINES in FORT FLAPTRAP.
Fort Flaptrap - Bully the Cat Bullies: To obtain this Cat Shine, you’ll need to defeat a host of enemies in an arena that makes up the bulk of the island. Equip an offensive power up and jump to trigger the red and blue platforms to alternate flipping - this will be important for the battle ahead. As you reach the arena, five Cat Bullies will spawn on a large grate platform over a pit of lava, and several of the flipping platforms will also be spaced around the arena. In order to defeat the Cat Bullies, you’ll need to either attack the Cat Bullies with your power up attack, or lead them to one of the flip blocks and jump to send them falling into the lava below. Note: You can also find two blocks near the front of the arena - one with a Fire Flower, and one with a Super Star! Once the last bully has been knocked into the lava, the Cat Shine will appear.
Fort Flaptrap - Blue Coin Bustle: After leaving and returning to Fort Flaptrap, you’ll find a blue button you can ground pound at the front of the island - this will start a timed event to collect every blue coin you can find as quickly as possible. To start, there are 8 blue coins on the moving flaps leading up to the arena - jump carefully to trigger the flaps so that you collect them all and don’t get knocked back down. Once you get to the arena itself, 8 more coins will appear on the right side of the arena, all over the moving flaps - along with several enemies. Avoid jumping to get away from them, as it may cause you to miss the coins or fall in the pits, and instead jump only when you need to move the platforms to get the coins. Finally, the last 12 blue coins are all bundled together on the opposite side of the arena on each side of several flaps. This means you’ll need to be extra cautious about getting both sets of coins without accidentally falling in, so take things slow, and the Cat Shine will be yours!
Fort Flaptrap Show’s Over, Cat Magikoopas: Similar to the first Cat Shine on this island, once you leave and come back after the second shine, you can return to the lava arena to find a group of 6 Magikoopas causing havoc. They all will shoot slow projectiles and teleport around, so be aggressive and chasing after them and using an offensive power up to catch them before they teleport somewhere else. Defeat them all, and the Cat Shine is yours.
Fort Flaptrap - Five Cat Shine Shards: This Cat Shine can be obtained at any point while exploring Fort Flaptrap, but you’ll need to track down each of the red shard coins to find this Shine. The first can be found at the entrance to the arena, floating above a flap on the right. The second shard is located just behind the lighthouse on the far side of the arena. The third can be found on the beach to the right, over on the south side of the island between two trees. The fourth shard is located on the southeastern tip of the island, just past a group of fury blocks, on top of a tree. The final shard is hiding in a tricky location along the outer northern wall along the beach. You’ll need to look for two tiny breakable blocks in the wall and destroy them (koopa shells or Cat Mario’s swipes can help), then crawl in to find the final piece.
Fort Flaptrap - Blast the Fury Blocks: This Cat Shine can be obtained at any point as you explore Fort Flaptrap, but you will need the help of Fury Bowser to actually unlock it. Look around the southeast side of the island below the lava arena by some trees, and you should find a small stack of bower blocks. Now all you need to do is wait for Fury Bowser to emerge and stand in front of the blocks until he prepares to blast you, and then take cover behind other blocks until he melts the fury blocks. Return once the blocks are gone to quickly grab the Cat Shine before he can strike again!
