For this intro comparison video, I’ll be showing you the two openings used in my childhood favorite show on Cartoon Network: Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends! While it’s no longer my all-time favorite CN series (with that honor now going to Steven Universe), the show still has a special place in my heart, so I’m giving it the video I think the series deserves.

Admit it: you didn’t know that there was a second version of this show’s intro, nor that there was an official widescreen intro for the show.

Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends switched from 4x3 to high definition widescreen beginning with season 5 in 2007, and so the show’s intro was reanimated in the new aspect ratio starting with that season’s first episode, "Cheese a Go-Go". However, since HD televisions were just beginning to gain ground back then, Cartoon Network cropped the show’s final two seasons when they first aired so they could be seen in the same aspect ratio as the four seasons that came before them. Because of this, many people didn’t get to see seasons 5 and 6 of Foster’s in widescreen, leading to the shock you’ll most likely have when you watch the two intros side by side.

You’ll only be able to watch those two seasons in 16x9 on Cartoon Network’s on demand service and HBO Max, as Hulu and iTunes still only have those final 26 episodes in 4x3.

Since I currently have neither of the above, credit for the widescreen version of the seasons 5 & 6 intro goes to Roth7000, who ripped it from HBO Max. Link to the original upload: https://youtu.be/7csdcrlSDWM
