The Next Fest extravaganza continues with Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, an action platformer inspired by Japanese folklore. This is very much in the Metroidvania vein with lots of platforming and a large map to explore. Plus, the acquisition of new abilities comes with drinking new varieties of tea! How delightful.

My first impressions are that I really dig the setting and the art style, but the gameplay is not set up for someone like me. There is a significant amount of platforming if the demo is anything to go by, and my shaky old hands don't always handle that well. As that is almost certainly a skill issue, though, I'm not going to hold it against the game too much. The boss fight (1:12:00) brings out some salt, as well, but again it's as likely down to a skill issue as game design. Even if I'm on the fence about whether to play this upon full release, I can definitely see this being many people's cup of tea. From the June 14, 2024 stream at   / trooperbari  .
